Dorothy Ealy is supporting the guest star of the episode. This scene is there to show camaraderie between the two female characters, and display their bravery. It's also a turning point for Dorothy as she decides she will no longer be a timid woman in the background, but part of the frontlines, in this case literally on the frontlines of a shootout.
