This class is a place to work deeply with plays, complex characters, rich language, and material that asks more of the actor over time.

Performance is not the goal. Growth is the goal.

That growth comes through an exploration of craft and self, grounded in a full commitment to the material. We work to expand emotional range, imagination, responsiveness, courage, precision, and the capacity to live fully inside demanding circumstances.

My teaching combines disciplined analysis of the text with an empathetic understanding of human behaviour and the individual actor in front of me. We investigate what the writing requires, what the character is fighting for, where the actor encounters resistance, and what becomes possible when that resistance is explored with curiosity rather than force.

Great writing gives actors somewhere substantial to go. When advanced actors are willing to experiment, stumble, take risks, and move beyond familiar habits, meaningful discoveries occur. The work becomes more personal, more specific, and more alive.

I believe in guided exploration within a safe, supportive, and rigorous environment. An actor’s privacy is always respected, while the work itself is approached with honesty, discipline, and ambition.

Scene Study for Advanced Actors is an invitation-only class for experienced actors committed to serious, ongoing growth. Participants will generally be expected to have worked with Terry Knickerbocker, ensuring that the room shares a common foundation and a readiness for this level of exploration.
